Alastair Mordey, Author at One Step Rehab Thailand
Alastair Mordey is one of the pioneers of drug and alcohol treatment globally and specifically in Asia. He has been an addiction’s professional for twenty years.
He started his career as an expert in substance abuse working with street homeless drinkers and injecting drug users. From 2000-2010 he led outreach across North London for the National Health Sevice and worked in both abstinence and harm reduction settings.
After leaving the public sector in the UK, Alastair went on to become one of the pioneers of the burgeoning private addiction treatment sector in Asia. Between 2010 and 2019 Alastair was a founding shareholder and the chief clinical architect of The Cabin Addiction Services Group a multi-national treatment provider which operated nine facilities across five different countries. Alastair helped to build the company until its sale to private equity in 2017 for $40 mil USD.
As Global Program Director of The Cabin Group, Alastair authored its treatment system and clinical methods. This system is now the predominant model used in private treatment centers in the Asia-Pacific region.
To date Alastair has overseen the treatment of some 5000 addicted people from many different cultures around the world, and he is a well-known speaker and writer on addiction issues, featuring regularly on the international conference circuit and in the media. Alastair is regularly called upon as a keynote speaker at the world's biggest industry conferences, including ICAAD and WCASD.
Alastair regularly authors articles for addiction journals and is widely known as an innovator in the addiction treatment field. He is a familiar face on the TV in Asia and has appeared on ABC News in Australia and in the documentary Between The Lines. He writes on addiction for many publications including: The Spectator, The National Post, Tatler, CNN, and Asian Correspondent.
