INPATIENT ALCOHOL REHAB

Like any substance based addiction, alcoholism or addiction to alcohol, is progressive and usually starts with drinking socially before leading to binge drinking, eventually evolving into alcoholism.

Someone who is struggling with alcohol misuse can experience an inability to abstain from drinking alcohol, a decay of personal relationships, behavioral control issues, and persistent cravings for alcohol. It is also common for someone with an alcohol use disorder to have a diminished recognition of problems caused by alcohol in relation to normal behaviors and personal relationships. Many alcoholics can experience cycles of relapse and remission that incorrectly lead them to believe that it is all ‘under control’ when a problem still exists with detrimental consequences.

Alcoholics will often make several attempts to control or stop their drinking, sometimes even being successful for a short period of time, before they finally seek professional treatment. These attempts to stop alcohol consumption will typically fail time and time again without professional intervention and the implementation of a long-term addiction recovery program.

Alcohol Withdrawal and Detox

It is essential that any detox from alcohol is performed under medical supervision. Clients at One Step Rehab in Chiang Mai will be assessed for the severity of their withdrawal symptoms and if necessary, they will be referred to our partner hospital for the acute phase of the detox.

Alcohol detox includes the following:

  • Full assessment by a medical detox specialist
  • Detox plan and detox medication if prescribed by a doctor
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • Monitoring from doctor and nursing team

A detox from alcohol is not the whole solution and is only of benefit in the long-term when combined with a comprehensive program of recovery. Effective treatment should involve multi-modal therapeutic approaches that address the psychological aspects of recovery, as well as the physical withdrawal.
